When Does Capital One Report to Credit Bureaus?

When Does Capital One Report to Credit Bureaus

If you’re a Capital One cardholder, you might be wondering — when does Capital One report to credit bureaus? Well, wonder no more because we have the answers to all your questions, including which credit reporting agencies they use and how often they report.

Keep reading to learn everything you need about Capital One and credit reporting.

What Credit Bureau Does Capital One Use?

Capital One reports to all three leading credit agencies: Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. However, when making a lending choice, Capital One might inspect two or three different credit bureaus.

Furthermore, your state may affect which bureau Capital One checks. For example, the bank appears to request more information from Equifax if you reside in Alabama, Minnesota, or Tennessee.

On the other hand, Experian reports are more frequently ordered in Oregon, Georgia, New York, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Kansas, and Oklahoma, whereas TransUnion reports are mostly requested from applicants in Indiana, Maine, Mississippi, and New Hampshire.

How Often Does Capital One Report to Credit Bureaus?

Every 30 to 45 days, usually at the same time a card member’s monthly payment is sent. Following the closing statement, credit bureaus generally receive data about three days later.

You can check your statement closing date by:

  • Viewing your credit card statement
  • Logging into your online account
  • Calling customer service

Capital One will not report on your first closing statement if you’ve just created your account. They will, however, begin tracking after the second statement and continue to do so.

Keep in mind that your Capital One credit report will not update right away. Depending on the credit bureau, it can take a few days to as long as two months for them to update your report.

Furthermore, each credit bureau has its own independent system, i.e., your Experian report might not include the same information as your Equifax report.

Capital One does not submit information to the credit bureaus on Saturdays and Sundays. If, for example, your payment due date is a Wednesday, Capital One will submit your report on Monday.

So, what day of the month does Capital One report to the credit bureaus? On the 20th of each month.

If you make a payment by 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, Capital One will post it on the same day at midnight. Payments received after 8 p.m. will be processed the following day at midnight.

What’s more, if you make any purchases using your credit card after the due date but before the reporting date, your creditor will report the outstanding balance as of the due date.

If, for example, your payment is due on the 9th and you pay off your full balance on the 8th, you should still be able to use your card on the 10th without any repercussions from what’s reported to credit bureaus.

This means the credit bureaus will be notified of the balance on your statement at the closing date.

What Information Does Capital One Report to Bureaus?

Capital One doesn’t precisely describe what it reports. However, based on a credit report check, the bank reports the following:

  • The account type
  • When the account was opened
  • Who is in charge of the account
  • The status of the account (open, closed, charged off)
  • Your balance
  • Your highest balance
  • Your payment history for the previous two years
  • Last payment amount
  • The past amount due

Does Capital One report authorized users to credit bureaus? Yes, Capital One reports authorized users’ credit activity to Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. However, they must be older than 18, and their account must not be delinquent.

How to View Your Credit Report

Although Capital One cardholders cannot access credit reports, they can check their credit score using CreditWise, a service connected to their Capital One accounts. To use CreditWise, log into your account or sign in via the app.

Bonus: Chase and Amex Reporting to Credit Bureaus

Chase reports to Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax, while American Express relies primarily on Experian for credit reporting.

When does Chase report to credit bureaus? Chase will generally communicate with credit agencies between 3 and 5 days after the payment due date is shown on your credit card bill.

Moreover, Chase sends reports to the credit bureaus every 28–31 days, which is more frequent than Capital One.

The bank also reports balances outside the normal billing cycle, typically when the balance is paid off. Furthermore, you can submit a request to have them send you a report on a specific date.

When does American Express report to credit bureaus? American Express reports your statement every 28–31 days, typically three days after your closing date.

Conclusion

To sum things up — Capital One reports to credit bureaus every 30 to 45 days, typically on the 20th of each month and three days after the closing statement. They do not, however, report to the credit bureaus on the weekends.

Moreover, your state may influence which credit bureau(s) Capital One reports to.
