The new EQS SUV is a fully electric vehicle from Mercedes-Benz for the US market and the company’s second electric SUV.
According to Mercedes-Benz, the new car is similar to the EQS sedan, introduced last year, and it should compete with Tesla’s Model X and BMW’s iX.
The EQS SUV’s tech-savvy cabin features three displays covering almost the whole instrument panel. Also, a single 56-inch curved glass covers the screens, and the vehicle has a driving range of 373 miles on a single charge.
Later this year, the SUV is scheduled to begin assembly at Mercedes-Benz’s plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, with a planned arrival in American showrooms in late 2022.
And while we still don’t have any info on the costs of the EQS SUV, its price range will likely start at $100,000 (similar to Tesla Model X). In addition to that, the EQS SUV will be available in two versions.
In Q1 2022, Mercedes managed to sell 21,900 fully-electric vehicles. Even as overall deliveries dropped 15% in the same time frame, the company sold three times more fully electric automobiles than it did last year.
Conversely, the EV leader, Tesla, managed to deliver 310,048 units in Q1 2022, making Elon Musk’s company the best-selling electric car producer in the world.
How will the new EQS SUV compete with Tesla’s Model X is yet to be seen.
